January 9th, O.P. XXIII (Yule)
EDITOR'S NOTE:
This week's information comes to us courtesy of Brother Simon of Saint
Michael's Temple, who was an observer at Court this e'en.  The following report is in his own words:

"Well, I came in late and left early, but here are the highlights that I
can remember:

"Two letters from the Kingdom of Greenwood (Sirrah Adder's homeland) came into Court, admonishing the Companions for their rude treatment of the Greenwood ambassador who visited the Court several weeks earlier.
The second letter was to inform the Court that the bounty on Adder's
head, and on the heads of his rebel family and friends, had been
tripled.  I wasn't actually there for this; I heard someone talking about
it out in the hallway later.

"Queen Flidas revealed that she had found Sir Mordecaii's spirit and
returned him to life.  Mordecaii entered the Courtroom wearing a Caerna
sash and medallion, claiming that since only the Caernas went looking for
him, he was declanning and becoming one of them.  Galchauren countered by saying that the Dragonsbanes did indeed look for him but were unable to find him.  Mordecaii also claimed that he sent a mental message to
Catalyn several weeks ago telling her where to find him (I think), but
she claimed she only received it the night before.  Queen Flidais then
made Mordecaii her Champion.

"The queen then accused Sirrah Vox of stealing one of the barrels of
dragon extract oil from it's secret hiding place.  She claimed that one
of her agents saw him do it.  He swore on the Court Sword that he did not remember doing it.  The matter wasn't pressed any further.

"Lord Ptolomei described a battle between an army of 'sovereigns' and and army of 'ferocious waterfowl.'  I think it was for a Lancelot
requirement.

"Valric seemed to have lost his memory since a little before either Pages' Feaste or Rock Guard...I forget which.

"A disgruntled peasant from Barden came in making ridiculous requests of the Court.  Barbeques, parades, stuff like that.  He wanted the
Companions to get out there and get to know their people.  His biggest
gripe was how run-down Barden had become since it was given to Sir
Ender.  He made some comments about how fine some of the Companions' garb was and that they should share the wealth.  When he started touching Companions and their garb, Mordecaii got up and, with the permission of the queen, roughly escorted the peasant out of Court.  Some commotion was heard out in the hallway, at which point Duke Lorath sprung to his feet and raced outside to find that Mordecaii had murdered the unarmed-if-annoying peasant.  I got the impression that it wasn't the first time he had done such a thing.

"There was some arguement about it, and the queen stated that it was
acceptable and legal for Companions to do whatever it took to preserve
order.  At that point, the majority of people in the room stood up and
left in protest.  Unfortunately, I was one of those people, so my report
has to end here.  I know that Sir Luhnquil was just coming into Court as
the rest of us were walking out, and I heard something about him declaring Wilderland neutral in the conflict since he wasn't there for the queen's order and didn't want to jump to any conclusions.

"The talk I heard around town this weekend was that those Companions who left Court in protest to Queen Flidais' new proclamation have a
proclamation of their own.  They refuse to enfore the queen's word as law and will continue to do so, and will not return to Court, until she resinds her "anything goes" order.  There were about five landowners in that group, as well as all of the regents except for the queen herself and the grand knight, who was not in attendance."
