A FEW GOOD MEN
Paladin Aeric told the Court of how he and Sir Marduk led a small contingent
of troops into occupied Pern over the weekend. While there, he learned
a number of interesting things, not the least of which was the general
unpreparedness of the occupying troops for a serious assault. While
the "no-man's land" between Pern and Keltian was guarded by a wall of mind-controlling
golems, the northern border with Cumbria was completely unguarded.
The interior of Pern was being held by a mere handful of uncoordinated
mercenary soldiers with no officers or Chronomancers to be seen.
The rangers discovered that a large portion of the population had been
moved to an unguarded tent city in the south of the land, and that children
were being taken from that camp to a large warehouse where they were being
fed and apparently looked after. The group was able to impersonate
some mercenaries in order to gain entrance to said warehouse, where they
found a few strange-looking golems serving food to the children.
Another interesting thing in Pern was the placement of a number of strange-looking
metal towers, which were later revealed by the enigmatic Jack/Lusserne
to be net-firing devices intended to snare ground troops and flying dragons
alike.
CAPTAIN BLOOD
Another officer from the Black Fleet appeared in Court this e'en, again
offering to aid the Court in their battle against the fleet currently blockading
Lyonesse. Like the captain who had visited the Court the week prior
(who was, apparently, not Mollari but only an officer of the fleet who
bore a striking resemblence to him), this officer's offer of aid was turned
down by the Queen.
MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO
A number of Companions complained of running into (and in many cases,
being killed by) the man called Idaho. Idaho had come into Court
the week before with a paper-thin excuse for being there; he was dismissed
shortly after his arrival by the regents. In each case, he had used
weapons and fighting styles identical to the Companions he was facing;
to make matters worse, he was equipped with a small amount of the Dragon
Oil extract thought destroyed or captured. In each case, the man
called Idaho made inquiries regarding the name Van Orten, a name which
had been cryptically mentioned by Jack/Lusserne during his first visit
to Court.
As his final act, Idaho went after Jack/Lusserne himself, but was foiled
by the improved security of Paladin Aeric's dungeons as well as the efforts
of the High Druin. The assassin was himself killed by Sir Mus as
he was attempting to find a way into Jack/Lusserne's cell in Keltian.
Upon being brought into Court by Sir Mus, Jack/Lusserne revealed a number
of things. First, that it was Jack's spirit that was inhabiting Lusserne's
body, and not the other way around. Second, the island that Jack's
army was visiting was one of the islands of Vox, where Jack was killed
by "metal monsters." And third, the man named Van Orten was Lacon
Vox's predecessor, who was apparently killed by Valric long before the
latter ever came to the Court of Light.
ARMY OF DARKNESS
Sir Mus reported to the Court that the skeletons created from the evil
force within the southern necromancy school were vulnerable to blunt weapons
such as maces and staves. Despite this news, the threat of the skeleton
legion continues to grow; reports came into Court this week of skeletons
raiding into southern Windsor, and how those wounded by their corrupted
blades lost their minds and became one of their kind.
SPIRITED AWAY
Sir Mus also informed the Companions that the children being collected
by forces occupying Barden are teleporting them to an island far to the
northeast by means of a special type of golem equipped with a teleporter
beam. It is entirely possible that the warehouse discovered by Paladin
Aeric and his men is the site of a similar operation.
FIELD OF DREAMS
Marquessa Catalyn returned to the Court after an extended absence,
to shed some light on the problems the realm is currently facing as well
as the cryptic visions several Companions have been receiving. According
to the Marquessa, the seemingly-separate forces that Warwick is facing
are, in fact, connected. The bone dragon seen circling over Lyonesse
is the avatar of an ancient god which was once worshipped by the "silver
sword" people currently invading that land. The dragon is somehow
connected to the skeletons of the south, which are the creation of a different
dark god who feeds on the strength of its followers (the skeletons themselves).
The people from the north with the "silver swords" are, in fact, descendants
of a race which once inhabited the land we now know as Warwick, but were
driven from it by their god after some terrible blasphemy was committed.
It seems that these two ancient gods are working together for some terrible
but unnamed purpose, but if the visions of the Queen, the High Druin, and
Marquessa Catalyn herself are any indication, the Pendragon and the Light
itself are threatened by this seemingly-overwhelming force of evil.
ROGER RABBIT
On a lighter note, the mercenary Thomas Moore appeared in Court this
week with fluffy bunny ears and a complaint of being jumped for his "chocolate
eggs." Apparently the Chanuka Bunny made good on her threat of having
the mercenary take the place of the late Easter Bunny.
In a related story, the Sexecutioner came into Court and asked that
the Queen please put an end to Thomas' constant "patronage," which has
only increased since his transformation.
THE PAGEMASTER
The pages were brought into Court after taking their Pages' Scroll
Tests, which they did pass with flying colors. The pages were given
as a final quest the job of escorting the Warwickian Royal Ambassador to
meet an ambassador from the faraway nation of Melmac to discuss a possible
alliance. The pages were given a list of useful items to take with
them on their quest, and were then sent on their merry way. |
