START SPREADIN' THE...PLAGUE
This e'en's festivites began with a frightening revelation: the anti-
Companion group known as HARQ may be connected to the spread of the
"Mus Dust" plague! According to the Sheriff, a group of HARQ members
tried to steal an infected body from the Mages' Tower earlier this week.
They were thwarted in their attempt by the Windsor guardsmen assigned to
enforce the quarantine of the tower. Unfortunately, none of the attackers
were captured; those who were not slain escaped into the
night. Sir Aeric has doubled the guard around the Mages' Tower
as well
as in other areas currently under quarantine, such as the ruins of
Saint
Tyrell's temple and a small village in Pern recently reported as having
demonstrated symptoms of the plague.
HARQ, WHO GOES THERE?
As a result of last weekend's body-snatching attempt by HARQ, Sir Marduk
has been given the go-ahead with his plan to ferret out the key members
of the group by using his knowledge of the HARQ in the alternate reality
he recently returned from. In that reality, Sir Marduk was the head
of HARQ, and since many other corellations between our world and theirs
have proved true, the hopes are that his investigation will be quick and
successful.
TOWER OF TERROR
With the knowledge that HARQ actively seeks to use the plague as a
weapon of terror in the Eleven Lands, the pressure is on to find a cure.
At Sir Aeric's request, Sirrah Vox has agreed to venture into the quarantined
Mages' Tower in search of the mages' work on a cure for the plague.
As
Vox is an inorganic construct, he need not fear infection.
TRICK? OR TREAT?
In an uncharacteristic display of largesse, the normally hostile Lacon
Vox appeared in Court this week to give the Companions a map of the
blue dimension that was created by Sirrah Nazgul on his recent misadventure
there. A week earlier, Her Majesty the Queen had received a present
from Lacon in the form of a shifting badge, one of the devices used to
move individuals between the blue dimension and our own. According
to Lacon, the badge was an extra that Gylemantis was returning to him,
thereby confirming the connection between the two. When queried as
to the motivations behind his generosity, Lacon stated that he simply wished
to even the odds a bit, so as to make the coming conflict more interesting.
He remained confident that Gylemantis would be the victor in the conflict.
In a related story, Marquessa Catalyn reached a new height of oddity
in
her behavior in Court this week. She entered the Courtroom wielding
Lord Ptolomei's walking stick, claiming that it was the Zando-scepter,
and
also claiming that she was the new thane of the clan, of which she
is only an honorary member. The wizard Vivek confirmed that there
was an
enchantment of some kind on the coin that Catalyn accepted from Lacon
during his visit to Pages' Feast; the coins were said to be the new
currency for his new regime, for he intended to take over Warwick once
Gylemantis' invasion was complete. As her odd behavior began
almost
immediately after accepting this coin (which was also said to be an
acceptance of an aristocratic position in Lacon's coming regime), it
is
theorized that the coin may be the cause for the change.
SHOWDOWN: GYLEMANTIS
Sir Aeric's announcement that his team of mages and craftsmen had
finished their large shifting gate came not a moment too soon, for
a soldier brought word into Court this e'en that thousands of the curtain-like
shifting portals had opened and closed in six of the Eleven Lands.
It was postulated that this was a test by the invaders to ensure that their
shifting magic would work when the time for invasion came. Such a
test could only mean one thing: that time is soon. Queen Flidais
and Sir Aeric vowed to make good use of Nazgul's map in their plan to shift
the captive peasantry from the blue dimension back to our own. Lady
Moira also promised to provide an army of healers to tend to the peasants;
Nazgul and the individual accompanying him on his reconnaisance mission
to the blue dimension were found to be in a poor state of health upon returning
to Warwick, suggesting that something in the blue dimension is hazardous
to human (and vampire) health.
THE SEARCH FOR THE REAL KILLER CONTINUES
The investigation into the murder of the Fortune's Folly pages during
their Rock Guard by what appeared to be Duke Lorath took a turn for the
worse this e'en. Queen Flidais reported having gone to question
the
Herald, Dame Jassurande, in whose company the duke claimed to have
been during the time the murders were committed. Her Majesty was
told by Jassurande's household staff that the herald had not returned home
since she left for Court the week before Rock Guard, thereby removing the
one alibi Duke Lorath had to draw upon in his defense.
As if on cue, a messenger from Dame Jassurande visited the Court shortly
thereafter, bringing a startling message from the herald. The
messenger
reported that Dame Jassurande "had left the lands after finding the
evil
in the Court of Light" and intended to return to Warwick and take the
throne for someone who was truly of the Light; namely, herself.
Through
the messenger, Jassurande gave ownership of Pern to Sir Aeric who,
already being the holder of Keltian (as well as a non-Zandofar), promptly
turned control of the land over to the queen.
FIVE DOWN, ONE TO GO
Most Noble Lord Dragonsbane reported this e'en that the pages had passed
their pages' scroll tests. The pages also presented the results of
their most recent quests, including a wonderful monument to the Unknown
Mercenaries, Lego's style. |
