"The Man Beneath the Armor"
Night time in the castle brings this knight to ponder
Looking over the walls of the tower
A small form...sent from the castle...
How many others are there?
How many people to be hurt by the man?
Countless dragons slain...
Villages saved...
Damsels rescued...
But if only one be hurt by a knight
Does the quest end?
Grasping a large mallet I toss it against the stone
One man tearing down a castle is a foolish sight
But still I try...
Barely a scratch on the walls...
Blood flowing from my hands...
I walk down corridors glowing in candlight
Upon the doors of the chapel I stand
In desperation I fling from me the armor which
surrounds me
Tossing the sword to the ground
I enter this sacred ground...
Not a knight...but a man
“Why?” I ask...”Why do I cause such pain?
You have given me a quest....and I have tried!
You have blessed me with those dear to me
and still the man I am falls so short of my Father!"
I fall down to my knees.....”forgive me...for I have
sinned...”
In the chamber I stay...fasting for days until...
Weary from hunger....confused....alone
I feel the weight of a hand on my shoulder
Jumping to my feet I turn to face my “company”
I am alone....always alone
Shaken...I exit the door...looking down
Lying on my armor
Like a gift to a weary soul
A loaf of bread....
A cup of wine in a wooden chalice and....
Wrapped around the handle of my sword...
A single yellow rose...
